FAQ
Are your teas certified organic?
Yes. The Organic Tea Project offers certified organic teas, grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers. Our teas are hand-picked and packed in India and Australian owned and run business based in Sydney, so you can trust every cup is clean and natural.
Do you add flavours or additives?
No. We only use whole leaf organic tea, real spices, and botanicals. You’ll never find artificial flavours, sweeteners, or hidden additives in our blends.
Where are your teas sourced from?
We work directly with growers in Darjeeling and Assam, India, regions famous for producing premium whole leaf tea. This direct relationship gives us traceability from the tea garden to your cup.
What’s the difference between whole leaf tea and supermarket tea bags?
Supermarket tea bags are usually filled with dust-grade tea (tiny broken particles). We use whole leaf tea in our pyramid bags, which means more aroma, richer flavour, and a smoother, less bitter brew.
Are your tea bags plastic-free?
Yes. Our pyramid tea bags are made from PLA (Polylactic Acid), a plant-based mesh derived from renewable resources such as corn starch. PLA is designed for industrial composting, not home compost, which makes it a far better choice than petroleum-based nylon or PET plastics.
Are your tea bags biodegradable or compostable?
The tea leaves inside are fully compostable in your garden or green bin. The PLA tea bag mesh is industrially compostable under standards like AS 4736, but it won’t break down quickly in home compost. We’re working with our suppliers towards Australian certification, so we can give you full clarity.
What sizes do your teas come in?
We offer a range of pack sizes to suit every tea drinker:
-
Loose leaf tea → Small (60–100g boxes), Medium (120–200g), and Bulk (500g pouches).
-
Pyramid tea bags → Boxes of 20 bags or Bulk pouches of 100 bags.
-
Extra bulk → Some teas are also available in 1kg pouches when in stock.
How many cups of tea will I get from a pack?
A box of 20 pyramid tea bags makes 20 strong cups. A 100g loose leaf box brews around 40–50 cups, while a 500g bulk pouch makes up to 200 cups.
Do you offer caffeine-free teas?
Yes. Our Peppermint, Rooibos, and Digestive blends are naturally caffeine-free. If you’re looking for a gentle evening brew, these are the best options.
How should I brew your teas?
-
Black teas (Breakfast, Earl Grey, Masala Chai) → use freshly boiled water, steep 3–5 minutes.
-
Green tea (Darjeeling Green, Jasmine Green) → use 80°C water, steep 2–3 minutes.
-
Herbals → boiling water, steep 5 minutes or more.
Because we use whole leaves, you can often re-steep the same bag twice.
Do you ship Australia-wide?
Yes. We ship anywhere in Australia. Orders over $85 ship free, and most arrive within 2–5 business days depending on your location.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes
Do you offer subscriptions?
Yes. Our tea subscriptions let you choose your favourite blends and have them delivered regularly, with a built-in saving.
Can I send your tea as a gift?
Definitely. You can send tea directly to someone by entering their address at checkout. We also offer digital gift cards, so they can choose their own favourites.
What if I’m not happy with my tea?
If something isn’t right, please contact us. We’ll make it right with a refund or replacement.
Is The Organic Tea Project Australian owned?
Yes. The Organic Tea Project was founded in Australia by Alok and Jonas, two friends who grew up sharing chai in India and later brought their passion for whole leaf organic tea to Australia.
